A globally recognised badge for technical trainers
The Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) credential recognises instructors who deliver official Microsoft training using Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC). It's aimed at experienced professionals who already hold relevant Microsoft certifications and want to teach others, in a classroom, online, or both.
As of 2026, becoming an MCT runs through a structured MCT Onboarding Experience, a formal pathway that replaced the previous, more ad-hoc application routes.
What the MCT Onboarding Experience expects of you
Four things Microsoft looks for before you can enrol in the MCT Onboarding Experience.
MCT Program Agreement
Review and agree to the current Microsoft Certified Trainer Program Agreement.
A qualifying credential
Hold a valid Microsoft certification relevant to the subject you plan to teach.
Proof of instructional skill
Provide verified evidence that you can teach effectively, through prior experience, references or assessment.
AB-730 / AB-731 badge
Your Microsoft Learn profile must include the AB-730 or AB-731 AI & Copilot foundations badge.
An immersive, hands-on introduction to teaching Microsoft content
The MCT Onboarding Experience is a 3-day programme, run by Microsoft and delivered by existing MCTs. It's where you build the practical skills to engage, inspire and empower learners in any setting, practise applying proven strategies for real-world impact, and connect with a global community of training professionals before you step in front of your first class as an MCT.
Microsoft periodically updates the programme, so always check Microsoft Learn for the current, authoritative details.
Considering the MCT Onboarding Experience?
There's no separate prep course here: the MCT Onboarding Experience itself is the official 3-day programme, run by Microsoft and delivered by existing MCTs. If you're weighing up whether you're ready to apply, our trainer has been through it and is happy to talk you through it honestly first.
